In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Sanjay Mishra reveals taking auditions but never giving one.

Sanjay Mishra on auditions

When asked about the first audition he gave in Mumbai, Sanjay Misha replied, “Maine kabhi nahi diya audition. Ab main interview deta hu (I never gave auditions. I give interviews now).” Elaborating on the same, the actor said, “Woh tha bhi nahi audition ka. (Logo ne pucha) ‘Sunno, kar loge? Aisa bolna hai, theek hai? Bol ke dhikao. Agar usko audition kehte hai toh audition (diya maine) (There used to be no auditions as such. People used say ‘This is the role’, ‘You need to speak like this’,’ You need to do this’ if these are called auditions then yes I have done auditions).”

Sanjay Mishra never gave auditions

While Sanjay hasn’t given auditions, he revealed he did take one. The ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ actor said, “Mujhe Manohar Shyam Joshi – jinhone Buniyad aur Ramesh Sippu ke saath (kaam kiya), hum log shayad kuch ek serial likhe the. (I worked with Manohar Shyam Joshi, who created Buniyaad and collaborated with Ramesh Sippy; we might have even written a few serials together). Toh jab main NSD (National School of Drama) se pass out ho gaya, toh mujhe actor banne ka bilkul maan nahi tha ki choodo sab acting-wacting. (When I graduated from NSD (National School of Drama), I didn’t feel like becoming an actor at all; I thought, ‘Forget about acting.’) Aur father ne bhi bola ki acting nahi kar rahe ho toh Manohar Shyam Joshi ke saath raho, bahot accha dialogues woh likhte hai (Even my father said, ‘If you’re not going into acting, stay with Manohar Shyam Joshi; he writes excellent dialogues.’).

Sanjay Mishra recalls taking an audition

Recalling taking an audition then, the actor said, “Unhone kaha, ‘Sanjay, ek audition lena hai Delhi mein. Le ke rakh do yaar. Usko Bombay lekar jaana hai, Ramesh Sippy pe yaha. (He said, ‘ Sanjay, there’s an audition in Delhi. Just conduct it, please. We need to take it to Bombay, to Ramesh Sippy over there’) Toh mera choota bhai tha, unhone kaha, ‘Bhaiya, tum audition lene ke saath saath na apna bhi de dena. Agar ho jaaye, toh ho jayega (My younger brother suggested, ‘Bhaiya, while you’re taking the auditions, you should give one yourself too. If it works out, then great’)”

Talking about starting with small roles, he said in Hindi, “I did a lot to get into the film industry. I love cinema that’s why I don’t differentiate between big and small roles. I knew I had to take up small roles because I had to prove myself. You aren’t that lucky that someone will point at you and make you big – and I didn’t want that also.”
